Not only were Rutherford’s words immensely comforting and strengthening, but reading his expression of a genuine, simple, joyful trust in the Lord spurred me to study Christ and love and praise him more. This was a lovely gift from someone I value greatly, and I enjoyed reading through this book on a devotional level for the last month or so. This short book was a brilliant read. Normally, I love audiobooks, and the reader was wonderful Simon Vance — he’s done a lot of favorites. We read this selection of Rutherford’s work for our ladies’ study. Wonderfully refreshing quotes from some of Rutherford’s letters. It would be a better read if the quotes where arranged by theme and easier to find.

Thankful for this treasure of a book full of gems. But it’s one of those books that is nice to have on your bedside, because he has some beautiful reminders in his letters about who Christ is and the privilege that it is to be loved and called by Him. He felt that being separated from his congregation was unbearable.
