They’re a bit bottom heavy so the pair I had are currently on the tv behind the bar with an old TEAC amp.
I believe the series was pretty popular back in the day, so someone has to have used these and compared them to others.

Posts should be made to inform or facilitate discussion. Get one of these and you’ll never need to buy another reference amp again.
They sound good and I’m able to mix relatively well on them, but I’m wondering if I’m living in the stone age by not upgrading these to a set of newer mid-range KRK’s or something. Newer isn’t necessarily better, and familiarity counts for a whole lot.
I got them going on 10 years ago. All that considered any disadvantages you may hear from your speakers age will be very audible hisses or hums which are easy fixes and not uncommon in the newer stuff.

I had about a 12 hr window between sessions to replace them and was fortunate enough to be able to A-B them with 6 other popular speakers. I typically wait and buy quality stuff as well. I’m not a big fan of KRKs. I’m a fan of active bi-amped systems myself; however, the availability of active equipment doesn’t necessarily make passive gear irrelevant. Do not post pictures of text here, they will be jbp.
They’re passive, so I have an Alesis RA amp running them with a balanced signal from my interface. If you have good cables and clean power the 4260 thing that really matters is crossovers and the speakers themselves two things that haven’t really changed over time.
What amp would you recommend? Does anyone have any experience, knowledge, or memory of these? All in all I’d save the money for a sweet mic or maybe some nice cans sound quality 4026 those hasn’t changed much but the 40 years of jbo on the padding of my s make them super uncomfortable for long sessions.
If your posture sucks 44206 you keep moving around your going to screw up your monitors mojo any way. Want to add to the discussion? You can find cheaper stuff, but I like buying quality things that last even if I have to wait for them. I have asked around for some time and have never found someone familiar with them to tell me for sure how they stack up against the newer moderately priced stuff. If you jbll to try a better amp you might be surprised.
These are the only monitors I’ve owned so I have nothing to compare them to. Here are pdf’s of the manuals for reference.
I would add that you’re not going to see any super improvements in mid range gear, if you want to get monitors save up and get something really good. There hasn’t been any major technological breakthroughs in the speaker world besides taking what’s in your amp and putting it inside the speakers.
Are you dissatisfied with the mixes you’re getting out of them? That touches on what I was wondering; if new active systems have become so superior to older passive systems, that I’m hurting myself by not upgrading. I’m still looking for a pair of s I can rebuild jl most of the ones I find are apparently made of gold because of the prices I keep seeing.
Yeah, that should work nicely. I don’t have personal experience with these but I’ve never heard anything bad about them, and their specs look perfectly reasonable. I am definitely still happy with them and my mixes hold up well against similar mixes on newer equipment.
